Assisted Living

Assisted Living Communities tend to be the next step for those no longer capable of living independently.

These facilities are frequently larger (7 plus residents) and provide social interaction along with assistance with needs of daily living (ADL). That typically comprises of help with eating, bathing, dressing, toileting and mobility.

They can also contain Memory Care units which specialize in Dementia and Alzheimer’s providing care specifically related to memory loss etc.

Staff are licensed to administer medication, however, care levels exclude medical/skilled nursing services, and residents needing more than ADL care would need to seek other alternatives.

There is a monthly fee which may or may not be all inclusive and an upfront non-refundable community fee to move into this type of facility.

Residential Care Homes (Family Care Homes)

Residential Care Homes are a very unique form of Assisted Living and provide a nice alternative to the larger Assisted Living Facilities. They are residences providing a more homelike setting and are typically licensed for 3-6 residents.

They can often care for mild Dementia and Alzheimer’s but are not considered Memory Care units. They have become more popular in the last 10 years or so especially in our area.

Staff to resident ratios are more favorable, thus enabling for more personal care than the larger options provide. These facilities, just like any Assisted Living Facility, are monitored by the state and subject to many of the same regulations.

Like larger assisted living, there is a monthly fee which is typically all inclusive along with an upfront, non-refundable community fee. The Management at Peace of Mind were former owners of this type of Senior Care facility.

Skilled Nursing Facilities

These facilities provide the highest level of care available for senior living. In addition to ADL’s, they can provide medical and skilled nursing care to those residents needing more than the basic Assisted Living options can provide.

There is usually 24 hour supervision of residents and all levels of nursing care available.

They meet the physical, psychological and medical needs of their residents and do so at a high level of care typically handling any and all medical conditions.
